Rapunzel Is Influential

Busy, busy hair
"Smile!"
This morning, Ainsley and I fought with her hair again. She has been cursed with my hair, so it's always knotty and horrible. I try to make combing her hair fun. I talk about how the knots are in her head and we have to kick them out with the tangle spray and the comb every day. If we don't, they'll make more and more.

When I was talking about brushing her hair today, she said, "Like Rapunzel?"

"Yes, we'll brush and brush and brush and brush your hair!" I sang to her.

"I want a braid!"

"Like Rapunzel?"

"Yes! And barrettes."

Of course, I deemed this blog worthy, so I asked her to take her picture. This was her response.

Nooooo!!!

HAIRCUT!

We named this brown
horse Cocoa; we aren't
very original.
I took Ainsley to get a haircut today...mostly b/c her hair was destroying me emotionally and she was growing dreds.

Part of the haircutting process was the promise of reward for good behavior. She wanted hot chocolate, ice cream, and a carousel ride. She was mostly good for the Great Clips lady. She only pretended she'd lost all the bones in her body once or twice. She sat moderately still and was pretty quiet.  Actually the only time she really spoke she freaked out the GC lady. We were discussing layering the back of her hair, and Ainsley said, "What are you guys talking about?"

Me: "We're deciding what to do with your hair."

The GC lady said, "Wow. She was really serious. How old is she again?" Ainsley is wicked articulate. I love when she zings strangers.

Since we were having a Momma Daughter day, I decided carousel and ice cream were earned. So we hit the carousel and the DQ.

ABC Spaghetti-Os!

The Difference 21 Months Can Make

For today's pajama day, Xander as been removed from his pajamas for lunchtime, as today they finish a can of ABC Spaghetti-Os I bought A when she was sick. (I'd prefer to just buy ABC pasta & serve it with other stuff if possible as Spaghetti-Os are gross.) Ms. A is a much daintier eater now...letter by letter she eats this. But most importantly...SHE EATS IT.

Then I remembered when Ainsley was this age, I fed her some ravioli babyfood and she had a similar approach. They're about the same age in the high chair pictures above. Sometimes I think my kids look very similar and other times, not so much. In this one, I think they couldn't look much more different.

I Wake Up!

Thanks, Kid. No, Really...

The last couple of months, Ainsley has started waking us up using a new method. In the past, when she woke up, most of the time she'd play with her toys for a while. We'd hear her on the monitor and have a leisurely morning wake up.

Now, however, she's taken to screaming at the top of her lungs:

MOM! I WAKE UP!  MOOOOM!  I WAKE UP!!

Don't think it doesn't piss me off that it's "Mom!" she screams and not "Dad!" WTF?!

Normally, I'm already awake with Xander, so this isn't too startling. But occasionally, Xander will let me sleep in--and it's on those mornings that the monitor scares the crap out of me.

Yesterday, when Ainsley WAKE UP!!, I went downstairs and discovered exactly how much my daughter she is.  Check this awesome hair.  I'm pretty certain that my family has very similar pictures of me (and my awesome hair) like this at her age.

Also, sorry about that kid...our hair kinda sucks.

And Now for a Little Xander

After waking up, Ainsley decided it was time to go get Little Brother.  Per her usual, she asked to be put in Xander's bed.  This time, however, she did not try to lay on him and smother him in his bed.  Instead, she felt it necessary to show how she could pick her nose. Xander, in turn, offered up some pretty solid scrunchy face.
